The price rise

Due to increasing postal and printing costs, Lobster had ceased to pay for itself. Hence the cover price rise to £4.00 for UK readers. Looking back I found that Lobster had been £3.00 since 1999. A 33.3% increase in 10 years is 3.3% a year — about the average rise in inflation in the wider economy.

This edition

There isn’t much in this issue about the economic situation because there really isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said, for example by Larry Elliot in The Guardian every week. Yes, it might have been fun to write a ‘Well, we told you so’ sort of piece, but to whom would that be addressed? Chances are very good that if you are reading Lobster you never bought into the free market nonsense any way. So, yes, there has been some chortling here and some conversations about ‘pigeons coming home’, and ‘the bankers always fuck things up if you let them’ etc. Take all that as read. Meanwhile normal (as it were) Lobster subjects continue in this edition.
