Somebody commented recently that Lobster had changed from its early days. Yes it has. This is inevitable. The world changes, priorities change and the people writing for Lobster change. When Lobster began in 1983 its chief focus was information on the intelligence and security services. There was almost no information on them in those days and every scrap seemed important. These days such information is available in abundance and I see little point in simple collation. Plus the spooks don’t seem as important as they did. If someone offered me a new list of the British secret state, an update of the one I published in 1989, I’m not sure I would devote an entire issue of Lobster to it as I did then. These days the place for that sort of thing is the Net, on Cryptome or Namebase, not a hard copy version.

With Lobster the bottom line is banal: twice a year I publish a magazine in which I put the best material I have at the time. What you see is (most of) what I get. It still seems interesting to me; when it doesn’t I’ll stop doing it.
