Parish Notices
Thanks to Robin Whittaker, Rom, Tom Easton, Ian Tresman, Jane Affleck, Dr. David Turner, and Terry Hanstock for information since the last issue.
The big event in this neck of the woods is the arrival of the Lobster CD-Rom. Credit for this goes chiefly to Ian Tresman, Lobster Website manager and creator, who ignored my reluctance to embark on such a big venture, and who has done all the technical work; but also to Jane Affleck for a huge amount of proof-reading. There is an ad for the CD on page 14.
The other point needing some comment is the British English/American English problem. One of Lobster’s American readers has complained a number of times about the typos in Lobster. Most of those, I suspect, are simply British spellings which look odd to the American eye. In practice there is no way to deal with this without changing all American usages – eg in Doug Valentine’s essay in this issue – into British English; or adopting the American alternatives and giving up on British English, which I am certainly not going to do. We will just have to live with the two variations.
