Tim Rifat
Century Books, London, 1999 £17.99
I was enormously disappointed to discover that this non-fiction book, which has printed on its cover, ‘The History and Science of Psychic Warfare and Spying’, not only lacks an index, it contains no meaningful references. Occasionally the reader comes across some scant footnotes; but the bulk of the text lacks the essential factor which gives credence to the content.
Additionally, although the book is over 440 pages, only 153 pages are the author’s. The remaining pages are duplicated copies of documents, released long time ago by the US Defense Intelligence Agency, which are readily available on the Internet.
Most of the content of Rifat’s text contains serious flaws. There is no documentation to support his assertions in many areas. A few examples: on page 7 he refers to a paper which, in turn, refers to the existence of a DIA psychic centre in the National Security Agency (NSA); but he fails give details of the paper. On page 18 Rifat makes extensive references to hypnosis, drugs, meditation, ELF and a host of other commonly known factors; yet he fails to produce any evidence to support his comments. On page 19 he makes references to Tesla coils etc., again without any substantial evidence to support his claims. One of the most outrageous claims made is on page 20 where Rifat states that anti Remote Viewing devices are deployed in top secret bases, both in Russia and the USA. There is absolutely no independent evidence produced by Rifat to support this claim.
Furthermore I am ill at ease in connecting many topics of his discussion directly to Remote Viewing, the main topic of his book.
This is yet another poorly written book from Century, who previously had published Tim Good’s Alien Liaison with such haste. Both books were edited by Mark Booth. I rang Century three times without success hoping to get a comment from Mark Booth about the book. He never called me back. It is sad to see a responsible publishing company prepared to publish material which lacks sufficient evidence on such a serious subject.
