This is a useful companion piece to Andy Mullen’s essay in this issue. The authors believe that whatever this government says its policy towards the euro is, it has decided to enter the euro and is ‘playing a long game…. preparing for euro membership’. This preparation has included two ‘low intensity’ propaganda campaigns, substantial state expenditure already and decisions that ensure that in the referendum campaign the ‘Yes’ campaign can outspend their opponents, and that the EU itself can intervene. Without getting much publicity, the fix is already in.
