... well, well, a piece in The Telegraph on 10 September 2009 under the subhead 'Desire Petroleum tows rig to oil-rich Falklands' began: 'A British oil explorer is raising £20m-£30m from shareholders as it prepares to start drilling in the Falkland Islands, where it believes up to 3bn barrels of oil and gas may be recoverable. UFO tourists? In 1993, an RAF Wing Commander lobbied MoD officials about the need for a properly funded study of UFOs. He told them: 'The national security implications [of UFOs] are considerable. We have many reports of strange objects in the skies and have never investigated them. He added: 'If the sightings are of devices not ...

(c) www.lobster-magazine.co.uk (Issue 48) Winter 2004 Last| Contents| Next Issue 48 A load of Balls One of this magazine's contributors commented that Lobster was the only magazine in which you would find economics and UFOs. Though this isn't true Nexus, for one, often has both I knew what he meant and took it as the compliment he intended; and though there are no UFOs in this issue, here is a smidgeon of political economics. For years now Chancellor Gordon Brown has taken the credit for the UK's low interest rates and low inflation. In his speech to the Labour Party conference on 27 September this year he said, for the umpteenth ...

... of real signs and symptoms drawn from a myriad of fields: suburban architecture, psychology, Hollywood B-movies, military his-tory, cybernetics, flying saucer lore. At first these items may seem disjointed, almost scatter-shot, but the networks they form together reflect the profoundly inter-connected process that charact-erises the Zone, a place where televisions deliver electroshock therapy and UFOs pop out of microwave overs. Applying a dream logic to real events, treating pulp fictions as history, and history as myth, Hollings ignores the con-ventional logic of cause and effect that you find in most nonfiction books about the past.' ... sessions exist. The first session occurred shortly after the abduction incident. The most noteworthy thing about it: Myrna speaks of being taken by soldiers, not aliens, after she had seen vaguely-described unusual activity taking place near Kirtland AFB in New Mexico. Davidson confirmed for me that, at the time, everyone talking to Myrna merely presumed that UFOs were involved. This is typical of the conclusion-hopping one encounters in ufology. Davidson didn't even realise, until I pointed the fact out to him, that everything in the first hypnosis session had an earth-bound explanation. The second hypnosis session occurred about five months later. That session does include all sorts of loopy and unbelievable 'alien' stories ...

... while many-- not all-- of the people writing in these fields might share Hougan's values, the readership isn't so bothered. I've had comments from a couple of people working in the parapolitical catalogue business complaining about the kind of garbage they have to sell to make a living. (For example, the wilder end of the UFO thing.) The second reason is that there simply isn't enough material around of that quality. It's axiomatic: if there was, Steamshovel wouldn't be printing rubbish about vampires. A Steamshovel Press operating at Hougan's standards couldn't appear quarterly as it now does. So the situation will remain as it is. Steamshovel Press POB 23715, St ...
