31. The JFK literature: some recent titles [Lobster #30 (Dec 1995)]
... following deaths, all of which give rise to legitimate suspicion and certainly warrant further investigation: Karyn Kupcinet, who allegedly had foreknowledge of the assassination, was strangled in Los Angeles, 28 November 1963; Jack Zangretti, a minor mob figure who managed a gambling resort and hotel in Oklahoma, told friends while Oswald was in custody that Jack Ruby will kill him within twenty-four hours and someone close to Frank Sinatra would be kidnapped to take attention away from the assassination. Both events happened, and Zangretti was found two weeks later floating in a lake with bullets in his chest; Eddy Benavides, brother of Domingo Benavides who was a witness to the Tippit slaying, shot ...

32. More JFK Assassination books [Lobster #27 (Jun 1994)]
... , booksellers' catalogs, and so on, and I've come up with a different figure. I've only included those where the assassination is the central matter of the book or where the book would not have been published had the assassination not taken place. For example, the assassination is not the main concern of Seth Kantor's biography of Jack Ruby but Kantor would hardly have written the book had the assassination not taken place. The figure I've arrived at is about 350 books (including US government publications from the Warren Report onwards). The author of Case Closed doesn't say the assassination is mentioned in more than 2000 books, he says more than this number 'have been written about ...

... would show the 'synergetic performance'. But it won't. About this stuff I'm still not sure. But it doesn't matter. Whatever Scott's wider intentions, taken slowly, Deep Politics is also a collection of dense, fascinating bits and pieces from the Scott canon; Scott on JFK and Vietnam (politely devastating Noam Chomsky); Scott on Ruby, narcotics, Army Intelligence, the Great Southwest Corporation and so forth. If it's not the massive, synthesising masterpiece I was hoping for it's still a wonderful piece of work. Last | Contents | Next ...

... book may be ordered through your local bookshop. The U.S . price is $49.95. [232] DALLAS BELLES [aka MODERN MOTEL]. This is a 10 minute b&w porno loop allegedly shot in a Dallas motel in the mid-1950s and featuring several of Ruby's girls. One shot shows Jack Ruby himself buggering a girl dressed in cow-girl costume. The film was mentioned to me by an assassination buff while I was living in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. The buff lived just off Santa Monica Blvd., out near the beach. I cannot even remember his full name now. It was Harry followed by an ...

35. People [Lobster #26 (Dec 1993)]
... . The last two are frequently talked of as intelligence operations -- Brian Crozier and Robert Moss, for example, have edited the latter -- but is there any evidence about the former? Seth Kantor died in August (Obituary in' Rocky Mountain News, August 19, 1993). A journalist in Dallas, Kantor knew Jack Ruby and bumped into him at the Parkland Hospital in the melee surrounding the arrival of the dead JFK. Kantor was thus one of the people whose information the Warren Commission had to ger round. Kantor was duly told he must have made a mistake. He later wrote two rather good books about Jack Ruby. ... Rogers say the couple's son, Charles, was responsible. They also say he was one of the hit-men on the Grassy Knoll (the other was Charles Harrelson), and that Oswald, though known to both of them in the planning, was set-up as a patsy. Charles Rogers also knew David Ferrie and Jack Ruby. The 'crime of the century' is thus solved by the end of the book but none of it can be believed. No evidence is produced to support the authors' arguments. This is mystery solving by diktat. However, on the upside, there is some good discussion of the Three Tramps and the photo section finally convinced ...

... did-it and the CIA-did-it hypotheses; and there is now quite a bit of evidence on the CIA-Mob relationship going back to WW2 and the original contacts with OSS. We might now reasonably expect a plausible hypothesis on the JFK assassination to include a role for both organisations. A crude Mob hit (with Ruby tidying-up the loose ends on the ground), followed by a sophisticated CIA-directed cover-up, perhaps? In Lobster 23 I hypothesized, semi-seriously, that the straw which finally triggered the CIA to remove JFK was his support for the rapprochement between the Christian Democrats and the Italian Socialist Party -- the ...

... That Garrison was correct about Shaw's biography gives credibility to the charge that it was Shaw, using his alias Bertrand, who asked New Orleans attorney Dean Andrews to defend Oswald after the assassination. DiEugenio has done his homework and argues convincingly enough that Oswald and Shaw were part of a network which drew together Guy Banister, David Ferrie, Jack Ruby, anti-Castro forces (mainly Cuban emigres and the Mafia) and the CIA. The mystery of Oswald Of course the existence of such a network does not prove that it was responsible for the killing of the President. Yet the links are suggestive. Why pick on Oswald, who may well not have shot at anybody on ...

... any of these cartridges. ' Again, Oswald's reactions at the time are revealing. After the gun mis-fired he began shouting "I am not resisting arrest, I am not resisting arrest' to the other people in the cinema. A police mis-fire and Oswald's quick wits saved his life in the Texas Theatre. Jack Ruby is the fourth element. Ruby didn't just appear out of the blue and shoot Oswald in the basement of the Dallas police station. He had been following the events rather closely. He followed Kennedy's body to the Parkland Hospital: the Dallas journalist Seth Kantor, who knew Ruby well, spoke to him there. (The Warren Commission ...

... likely, expressions of what they hoped would happen. Mafia links to Oswald. These are so removed from Oswald, essentially his uncle in New Orleans, as to be irrelevant. Buffs who take these seriously are clutching at straws, particularly when links to other groups -- the CIA, for one -- are so much stronger. Ruby knew Oswald. We don't know. The evidence is highly dubious. Oswald was killed by mobster, Jack Ruby, therefore the Mafia killed Kennedy. It has a straightforwardness which is highly compelling but it is not logical. The CIA employed the Mafia in a series of assassination plots against Castro. True, but at best only circumstantial ...
