71. JFK bits and pieces [Lobster #24 (Dec 1992)]
... is, he was determined not to send U.S . combat troops (as opposed to advisers) to fight in Vietnam nor to bomb North Vietnam. This does not prove he would have withdrawn completely, including the 16,500 advisers. However, the record is clear that he had laid the groundwork for doing so. ' Mind you, 16,500 'advisers'.... a lot of advice, Kemo Sabe. The Hilsman letter was part of a mail-out from the Assassination Archives and Research Centre, which continues despite the death of Bud Fensterwald, at 918 F Stret, NW, Suite 510 Washington DC 20004. ... contra-cocaine-CIA connections, the authors pile up layer after layer of further evidence of those links. The result is a dense, massively documented indictment of U.S . foreign policy. There is no comparable work being done in this country. For one of the paradoxes of the contemporary U.S is that alongside the mind-boggling corruption, stupidity and hypocrisy of its policies, there is a tradition of openness in its political culture which is unimaginable in this declining island. The point is this: Scott and Marshall have put together this incredible indictment from existing, published sources. Everything from Congressional inquiries to underground newspapers have been ransacked for the fragments which ...

... Army (UCA) story. (On which see my piece in Lobster 14 ). Bruce has problems with the UCA. In his glossary of Protestant groupings at the beginning of the book he describes the UCA as 'a completely fictitious left-wing loyalist paramilitary organization invented by British intelligence'. By p. 71 he has changed his mind and says 'the British Army may not have been the inventor of the UCA. ' In fact, as the Information Policy briefing on the UCA reproduced in Lobster 14 showed, the UCA was quite definitely not the invention of 'British intelligence'. It just looks like one. His use of the term 'British intelligence' is revealing. ...

... that it is valuable. It makes no difference to Berlet whether the book is important or useful, or that Prouty's latest book JFK: The CIA, Vietnam and the Plot to Assassinate John F. Kennedy (New York: Birch Lane Press, 1992), offers unique perspectives based on his own experiences in the Pentagon. And never mind that no one else offered to reprint Prouty's book. Berlet's point is that Prouty should not have given his good name to Liberty Lobby. And once he gave his name, everyone should avoid Prouty. If Public Information Research fails to avoid Prouty, then you should avoid PIR -- and so on down the line. But this ...

As to the charges against Fiore, having no Italian contacts and distrusting greatly the scant British press reports of the matter, I still have an open mind, and would be grateful for any information readers of Lobster can supply on this important matter. (c ) www.lobster-magazine.co.uk (Issue 25) June 1993 Last | Contents | Next Issue 25 Mind control update Writing about something you don't really understand, it's easy to make bad early decisions. It's like being self-taught on an instrument and acquiring bad habits. In this case I began by naming this subject 'ELF', extremely low frequency, which was about all I picked up from my initial reading of the torrent of documents which descended on me from Harlan Girard. Me being a scientific moron, you understand. Three years later, no less ignorant of basic science, it is now clear that there are at least ...

We are thus treated to the strange spectacle of Wilson, as PM, standing virtually alone in No. 10 Downing Street. This can only be described as a Lobster state, existing in the minds of the authors. To make matters worse, we are never told what it was that Wilson's lonely struggle was designed to promote or conserve. It was not socialism, since we are assured 'Wilson was never a socialist' (p . 167). We learn on the next page something of his supposed corporative ideas; our authors ...

Here was the proof, the academically respectable proof, of the great conspiracy. It may not have been quite the conspiracy they had in mind, but it was a conspiracy none the less. But apart from them, the only people who seem to have taken Quigley on board have been Shoup and Minter and the splendid Carl Oglesby.
