151. Scott et al (Book reviews) [Lobster #31 (Jun 1996)]
... a senior position within the Ministry of Defence. Analogies have been drawn between Scott and the Warren Commission. A better analogy, I suggest, would be between Scott and the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA). Somewhere in the account of the latter by one of its investigators, Gaeton Fonzi, was the comment that while the JFK assassination experts thought the HSCA had set up an proper investigation, the man in charge of it, Robert Blakey, saw his job not as investigating the killings of the sixties but simply as writing a report, to a deadline. The affair has already produced a number of books, two of which are of particular note. Truth ...

... of the Gestapo' derails an Amtrak passenger train.... Garrisonia The same day that the US papers carried the disappearance of ex-CIA head Willian Colby, later found drowned after a canoing tragedy (do you think Tom Clancy or Le Carré could come up with stuff like this?) news surfaced re. the Garrison investigation into the JFK hit. According to the San Francisco Chronicle of 1 May, 'secret documents just released by a federal agency strongly support the contention that the late Jim Garrison's investigation of President Kennedy's assassination was irresponsible and perhaps fraudulent.' The Assassination Records Review Board, responsible for making public documents which do not threaten 'national security, intelligence sources etc' ...

... is time to request from the Mexican Government all surviving documentation which the DFS collected on the Kennedy assassination. In the case of the Durán interview, it is possible that they still have a copy of the contemporary stenographic record which (according to Durán) was made of her DFS interrogation.(24) The Mexican government records on the JFK assassination case may help us understand what the CIA and FBI were hiding in this matter. The FBI, for example, appears to have understood completely that the three earlier DFS versions of Durán's statement (which it had received either directly or through the CIA) were for some reason to be replaced by the spuriously altered DFSX of May ...

... (c) www.lobster-magazine.co.uk (Issue 30) December 1995 Last| Contents| Next Issue 30 The JFK literature: some recent titles Anthony Frewin There is one book not reviewed here that should have been. The reason is it wasn't written and, indeed, it cannot now be. I am referring to Evelyn Lincoln's autobiography. JFK's executive secretary passed away on 4 May 1995 in Washington and with her have gone all of the secrets she shared with JFK. She kept her silence until the end. However, in a recent Channel Four (London) TV documentary series, Secret Lives, in an episode exploring the life of Jackie Kennedy, Lincoln stated that she believed Jackie ...

The telegram reads as follows (blacked-out(1) matter shown by brackets, with suppositions in italic): [Paragraph deleted in its entirety] EXPRESSIONS OF SORROW AND SYMPATHY RECEIVED FROM TOP COMMAND [Probably British Government] AS WELL AS WORKING LEVEL. The energy released by the propellant is transferred to the unhindered projectile. The authors do not even understand basic ballistics. They noted: 'Oliver Stone's JFK asserted that the bullet would have had to follow a zigzag course to hit both JFK and Governor Connally. That would be true only if you assume that they were sitting straight forward like graven images. If you assume instead that they were acting like politicians, turning and waving to the crowd, they would be lined up perfectly for ...

Gibson quotes widely from the hostile opinion of- not Wall St. per se; the title is a little misleading- but certain financial sectors. He shows that JFK was opposed by what would now be (misleadingly) called monetarist banking circles. Among his critics was one Milton Friedman. The second section is a brief account of changes in economic policy, and, in particular, changes in the USA's foreign policy, which followed LBJ's take-over of the reins. The US military and intelligence helped install ...

... I mentioned the problem of page references when using material scanned on to a CD-ROM- namely, there aren't any. L.M.P., however, have attempted to preserve the paging of the original, though this does sometimes wander a few pages one way or the other. Nevertheless, this is a start. The late Larry Howard of the JFK Assassination Centre in Dallas seems to have been the progenitor of this project. It is a fitting tribute to him.
