... first UK version of the Skeleton Key to the Gemstone File, and this pamphlet is the first example of an attempt to fit UK events into the framework provided by Gemstone. On the first page we get Miller, Judah Binstock, Lansky, Luciano, Nixon, Onassis, Danite Mormons (? ), Watergate, Hughes, Kennedy, CIA JFK, the Warren Commission......It's a farrago in which one or two suggestive facts are buried under a torrent of nonsensical assertions. For Gemstone buffs only. Last | Contents | Next ...

... Martin Cannon, the magazine section is 64 pages of articles of very high quality, with articles from Cannon himself and Michael Parenti, Dick Russell on non-lethal weapons, Peter Dale Scott demolishing Posner's Case Closed (it's worth getting just for that); plus material on Area 51, Pat Robertson, and the mysterious shooting at the CIA. This would been a cracking good issue at any time; to do this first time out is tremendously impressive. As well as the articles there are 40 pages of the PWR catalogue of articles, magazines, audio and video tapes for purchase. Unreservedly recommended. ... might be some fragments of interest to those seriously interested in the history of US-Soviet espionage. However, I am not interested in that subject, and to me, on a quick skim, only three snippets struck me. On p. 53 Kalugin reports that he and other Soviet intelligence officers were responsible for the rumours that the CIA had killed UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjold. On p. 170 he reports that 'after the fall of the Salazar regime Portugese working for the KGB drove a truck to the Security Ministry and hauled away a mountain of classified intelligence data'. This, presumably, is the ultimate source of the story, which began in this country ...

... Contents | Next Issue 29 Books Operation Mind Control W. H. Bowart, Self-published, Tucson, Arizona, 1994. Operation Mind Control was originally published in 1978 by Dell Paperbacks. It came out around the same time as John Marks' The Search for the Manchurian Candidate, a rather anodyne book which, after dealing with CIA and military LSD experiments which caused at least one unwitting victim to jump out a window, decided that 'mind control' of the Manchurian Candidate variety did not exist. Bowart's book took the opposite view. Drawing from mostly anecdotal evidence - such as the Candy Jones story and the weird tale of a 'programmed Filipino assassin', Luis Angel ...

... Embassy at this time, talked with 'Embassy officials' about this subject; and heeded their advice and agreed not to debate the Warren Commission conclusions with Mark Lane on TV. Frewin notes that Sparrow later had a book defending Warren published by a US company called Chilmark Press, an imprint which thus far has resisted investigation. Mr Sparrow has CIA written all over him and is probably worth a serious study by somebody. This is ring-bound, typeset, with a clear protective plastic cover, and is published by Last Hurrah Press, 937 Memorial Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701, USA, at $15.00. 486. Defector Politics: or, grooving with Mr G. [Lobster #29 (Jun 1995)]
... Czech defector, Joseph Frolik, in 1974 and 1975 Andrew and Mr G recycled Frolik in KGB . 'During the 1960s', they told us, 'the StB (Czech) residency in London ran three Labour MPs. ' They named one of the three, Will Owen MP, citing as sources Frolik's memoir, ghost-written while under CIA control, and Chapman Pincher! (This bit must be down to Andrew.) They did not mention that Owen was conning the Czechs, getting paid a lot of money for material that was not classified. They also reported Frolik's claim that the late John Stonehouse was a Czech agent. In so doing they prefered Frolik's memory of ...

... he had shot her. Joe's story is carried, in fictionalised form, in the re-write of Bowart's Operation Mind Control (reviewed below). Vialls now believes that, programmed in some fashion, he shot Fletcher from an office of the Hughes Tool Company close to the Libyan Embassy. (Hughes Tool has been a cover for CIA.) The death of Penkofsky: a modern myth continues In Lobster 27 I commented on the developing myth surrounding the death of Oleg Penkofsky, generally assumed to have been shot after his trial in the Soviet Union. I noted that the Sunday Telegraph was recycling a story from the Soviet defector Suvorov that Penkofsky had been fed, alive ...

During World War 2 and the Cold War, US Government agencies (including the DoD, Army, Navy, Air Force, CIA and Dept. of Energy) conducted or sponsored extensive radiological, chemical and biological research programmes, in which hundreds of thousands of people were used as (often unwitting) test subjects. ... nineteenth century struggle between political secret societies (or, at least, between revolutionaries using non-political secret societies as a 'cover') and the political police of powerful states like Austria and Russia, to minimize the role played by revolutionary vanguard parties in the Russian and communist Chinese revolutions, or to deny that powerful intelligence services like the CIA and the KGB have fomented coups and intervened massively in the internal affairs of other sovereign states since the end of World War II. In short, it might well lead to the misinterpretation or falsification of history on a grand scale. And mum's the word on those three Texas Savings and Loan institutions Bentsen owned. All three, according to former Houston Post journalist Peter Brewton, ended up in the hands of the CIA and the Mafia. The press has also (mostly) steered clear of allegations that the CIA ran drugs and weapons through the small airstrip at Mena, Arkansas.
